Wilma Clara Best, the daughter of Ernest Gustav and Magdelena (Rohlfs) Kundel, was born on February 23, 1919, in Minden, Iowa. Wilma attended grade school and graduated from Minden High School in 1936. She worked on her parents’ farm outside of Minden after high school and married Charles William Best, Jr. on October 14, 1940 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived on several farms in the Shelby and Minden area before purchasing the Best family farmstead in 1965. Charles preceded her in death in 1989 and she continued to live on this farm until 2010 when she moved to Minden, Iowa. To be closer to her family, Wilma then moved to Shalimar Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska, in March of this year.
Wilma was a member of the Minden Congregational Church as a child, and she and Charles joined the Shelby United Methodist Church where she was still a member. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery and needlepoint. Many members of the family received pieces of her beautiful hand work. She also enjoyed flowers and grew roses, her favorite flower.
Wilma C. Best died on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska, having reached the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 8 days.
