Virginia Ann Callahan, the daughter of Clarence and Alma (Paschka) Weinke, was born on September 1, 1923, in Chaska, Minnesota. She was baptized on September 23, 1923, by Pastor O.H. Schmidt. On December 16, 1964, Virginia married Clyde Callahan in Chicago, Illinois. He died on December 17, 2003, in Harlan, Iowa. In recent years, Virginia had made her home at the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.
Virginia was a shy, quiet person who enjoyed reading, especially about children and dogs. Although she was not a church member, she treasured and read the Bible her mother gave her. An avid people-watcher, Virginia was often seen taking long walks.
Virginia A. Callahan died on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having reached the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Callahan; and one infant son. She is survived by her Elm Crest family and friends.
The funeral service was held on Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Elm Crest Retirement Community Chapel in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Donna Ewert of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan, Iowa, officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.burmeisterjohannsen.com.
