Vickie Lynn Long was born on June 23, 1958, the fourth child to the late Bobby and Vaneta (McDonald) Bullard at the Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her education from the Castleberry School District also in Fort Worth. She then received her certification for large equipment operating.
In 1976, Vickie married Bobby Bangeman and the couple later divorced. In 1980, Vickie married Richard Long and they made their home in Fort Worth and had three children: Brian, Christy and Megan. Following their separation, she had a second son, Timothy. Vickie moved to Omaha in 1992, where she worked at Frito-Lay and then moved on to RD Industries into the Ponca Hills area of Omaha.
Vickie overcame the dark side of life and found the Lord; in 2014, she was baptized into the Christian faith and in 2016 became a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan, Iowa. She was a beautiful, platinum blonde and turned heads wherever she went and had a very special way of making friends, no matter how diverse the crowd. She was also an avid foosball player ready to take on any two versus one. She always cherished the memories she had with her family walking over to the Mexican buffet, Panchos at the shopping mall. She met her longtime companion, John Hurley in 1994 and the couple had a son in 1998. They never married due to the fact that Vickie was ill and she didn’t want to burden him with that. She was a living example of strength, courage and endurance.
Vickie passed away peacefully at Avoca Specialty Care on November 7, 2023, at the age of 65 years, four months and 15 days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Sandra K. Bullard and Debra Youngblood.
Vickie is survived by her son, Christian (Taylar Porter) Long; longtime companion, John Hurley; children: Brian Long, Christy Long, Megan Long, and Timothy Roderick; siblings: Barbara (Jack) White and Johnny (Susie) Bullard; beloved dog, Freckles; several grandchildren; sisters-ish: Susanne (Ron) Engman and Tracey Partain.
