Richard Loyal Thomsen, son of Warner J. and Ruby I. (Best) Thomsen, was born on May 12, 1938, in Walnut, Iowa. He attended Walnut schools and graduated from Walnut High School in 1956. Richard proudly served in the United States Army from October 1961 through October 1963.
On September 26, 1964, Richard married Lois Irene Perry at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home in Council Bluffs where Richard worked in auto parts sales in Omaha and Bellevue, Nebraska. Following his retirement, he delivered auto parts on a part-time basis.
Richard loved visiting friends and family, and dining out. He liked passing the time by doing word circle puzzles. The couple had also enjoyed the opportunity to do some traveling.
Richard L. Thomsen died on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He had reached the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 28 days.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant sister, Shirley Ann Thomsen. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois Thomsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter, Michelle (Kenneth) Warnke of Rowlett, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Sievers of Walnut, Iowa, and Audrey Sizelove of Cape Coral, Florida; one brother, Kenneth (Marge) Thomsen of Tennant, Iowa; two grandchildren, Bridgette Warnke of Grapevine, Texas, and Nickoles Warnke of Mesquite, Texas; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A prayer service was held on Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Shelby, Iowa, with Chaplain Mike York of Hospice With Heart officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Shelby, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
