Richard Lee Gregersen, the son of Bernal Gene and Helga Therasia (Beck) Gregersen, was born on June 1, 1957, in Ingolstadt, Germany. He graduated from Atlantic (Iowa) High School with the Class of 1975, and attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Richard later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska, with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Sociology. He was active as a salesman in wholesale distribution, working primarily with Products Unlimited in Omaha.
On July 29, 2001, Richard married Cheryl Anne Werner under the mulberry tree on the family farm in rural Walnut, Iowa. The couple made their home in Pahrump, Nevada, where Richard enjoyed auto dirt track racing, fishing, and hunting. In January 2014, shortly before his father’s death, he and Cheryl moved to the family farm.
Richard’s grandparents, Martin and Thyra Gregersen, held a special place in his heart. Known for his great sense of humor, Richard greatly enjoyed being around and interacting with others; he truly believed in living life to its fullest. He also loved his dogs, Dutchess (now deceased), Luna, Sheba, Bullet, Saddle, and Allie.
Richard L. Gregersen died on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home in rural Walnut, Iowa, with his family at his side. He had reached the age of 63 years, 7 months, and 5 days.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 19 years, Cheryl Gregersen of Walnut, Iowa; three sons, Greg (Abby) Gregersen of Harlan, Iowa, Josh Gregersen of Persia, Iowa, and Seth Gregersen of Walnut, Iowa; one daughter, Brittany (Stuart) Lovorn of Avoca, Iowa; two grandsons, Bentley Lovorn and Noah Lovorn, both of Avoca, Iowa; his five beloved dogs, Luna, Sheba, Bullet, Saddle, and Allie; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, with Pastor Keith Menter officiating. Kevin Schlake was the eulogist, and Nancy Watson and Pastor Keith Menter served as musicians. Casket bearers were Gary Cook, Kevin Schlake, Stuart Lovorn, Josh Gregersen, Seth Gregersen, and Greg Gregersen. Burial was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery, Elk Horn, Iowa.
