Paul Leroy Jensen, the son of Harold E. and Thelma (Rasmussen) Jensen, was born on May 24, 1940, in Exira, Iowa. He attended Exira Public Schools and then began farming with his father. On August 8, 1964, Paul was united in marriage with Mary Louise Bowman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. The couple moved to Harlan, Iowa, where Paul worked as a laborer in agriculture-related businesses. He continued in this field until his retirement in 1986.
Paul was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. A proud Dane, Paul loved being home where he enjoyed Mary’s care and good cooking. He took pleasure in keeping the lawn mowed, the cars clean and waxed, and his clocks wound. Paul liked to pass the time by watching John Wayne westerns on TV. He enjoyed attending local auto races, and was a NASCAR fan. Friends held a special place in his heart, and Paul regularly went out for coffee with them.
Paul L. Jensen died on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa. He had reached the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 12 days.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, on July 28, 2017; one infant sister, Dorothy Jensen; and one brother, Darrell Jensen. He is survived by one son, Matt (Jill) Jensen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one sister, Marilyn Jensen, and one brother, Jerry (Rosalie) Jensen, both of Exira, Iowa; one granddaughter, Emerie Jensen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and other relatives and friends.
A Wake Service was held on Friday, November 8, 2019, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, Harlan, Iowa. Deacon Pat Davitt lead the service. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Father John Frost celebrating. Kathleen Kohorst, Sarah Schumacher, and Madi Schumacher served as the musicians. Casket bearers were Brock Bruns, Eric Nelson, Jedd Jensen, Brian Jensen, Craig Jensen, and David Jensen. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
