Mary Elizabeth Wohlhutter, the daughter of Bernard Lee and Dolores Annette (Stolz) Wohlhutter, was born on May 25, 1956, in Harlan, Iowa. Until she was eight years old, she lived with her parents on their farm near Kirkman, Iowa. During that time, she loved to sneak out and eat apples from the orchard. At the age of nine, Mary Beth moved to the Glenwood State Hospital in Glenwood, Iowa. She lived there until 1982, when she became a resident of Park Place in Glenwood. She was especially happy at Park Place, where she had made friends and was well cared for. Mary Beth enjoyed traveling in the Park Place bus on many outings, and liked to go shopping. She had a teasing sense of humor and loved when her family came to visit.

Mary Beth attended church in Glenwood.

Mary Beth Wohlhutter died on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Park Place in Glenwood, Iowa, at the age of 53 years, 9 months, and 9 days.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two brothers Mike (Pat) Wohlhutter and Jim Wohlhutter, both of Harlan, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, with Deacon Pat Davitt of St. Michael’s Catholic Church officiating. Casket bearers were Gabe Henery, Sabin Henery, Melanie Henery, Soren Henery, Jenna McDaniel, Rylie Wohlhutter, Kelsey McDaniel, Angela Wohlhutter, Michael Wohlhutter II, Danielle Wohlhutter, and Tim Horning. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Kirkman, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
