Julia “Julie” Jean Clark was born to Gerhard and Ingeborg Rohner on August 21, 1956, in Frühling, Germany. At the age of two, she was adopted by John N. and Rita A. (Leinen) Stein of Portsmouth, Iowa; she later attained her United States citizenship. Julie attended St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima School in Portsmouth and graduated from Harlan (Iowa) High School in 1974.
On September 29, 1979, Julie married Lewis “Luke” Nelson Clark at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth. The couple made their home in a house Luke built in the northern area of Harlan. For several years, Julie was employed fulltime at Variety Distributors and other local businesses.
Julie was raised in the Catholic faith. She greatly loved the outdoors, especially camping, canoeing, gardening, and riding the motorcycle with Luke. Julie’s wonderful cooking and baking skills will be fondly remembered by her family. She liked to take time to watch “I Love Lucy” and enjoy the company of her beloved pet dogs.
Julie J. Clark died on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at her home in Harlan, Iowa. She had reached the age of 64 years, 7 months, and 24 days.
Julie was preceded in death by her biological and adoptive parents. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 41 years, Luke Clark of Harlan, Iowa; one daughter, Gretchen Cote of Harlan, Iowa; one son, Jared Clark of Ames, Iowa; 15 brothers and sisters; two grandchildren, Evalyn Cote and Kiley Cote, both of Harlan, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Al Hazelton officiating. Kiley Cote was the special speaker. Evalyn Cote, Kiley Cote, Harper Clark, Quinn Clark, Hudson Clark, Jamison Clark, Gavin Anderson, and Beckham Clark served as honorary casket bearers.
