John Leonard Watts, Jr., son of John Leonard and Neoma May (Bower) Watts, Sr., was born on July 18, 1961, in Keosauqua, Iowa. He attended Le Claire, Iowa, schools, and graduated in 1979. John then worked for several grocery stores in the Le Claire and Davenport, Iowa, area, serving as the manager. In 1990, John moved to Harlan, Iowa, to work at SuperValue/Food Pride.
On June 18, 1994, John married Nancy Marie Andersen at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa. The couple lived in Harlan and John began working at Farmland Packing in Denison, Iowa. Later, he delivered health equipment for Iowa Western Medical, and most recently was employed in the housekeeping department of Avoca Specialty Care in Avoca, Iowa.
John was a member of Altamont Baptist Church, rural Harlan, Iowa. He enjoyed quilting, and loved his cats and pet fish.
John L. Watts, Jr., died on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, Iowa. He had reached the age of 55 years, 6 months, and 7 days.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, Lynn Andersen. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Watts of Harlan, Iowa; one son, Andrew Watts of Harlan, Iowa; two brothers, Alan (Carla) Watts of Grand Mound, Iowa, and Donald (Krista) Watts of Le Claire, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Andersen of Jacksonville, Iowa; one brother-in-law, John (special friend, Beverly Bouslaugh) Andersen; four aunts, Carol Heller and Norma Kay Amacher, both of New Glarus, Wisconsin, Judy Wilson of Keokuk, Iowa, and Sue Perry of Milton, Iowa; one uncle, Jim Watts of Lexington, North Carolina, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Altamont Baptist Church in rural Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Diana Holland officiating. Burial of ashes will be held in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Jacksonville, Iowa, at a later date.
The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
