Jean Marie Anderson, daughter of Arthur and Iris (Moore) Deutcher, was born on September 27, 1957, in Hays, Kansas. She grew up in the Hays and Ellis, Kansas, area, and graduated from Ellis High School in 1975. On December 12, 1975, Jean married Jerome Flax in Ellis. While living in Kansas, Jean worked as a cook and waitress.
In 1994, Jean moved to Harlan, Iowa, and married James Todd. She first worked as a waitress at Mickel’s Restaurant, and was later employed by Variety Distributors, Dollar General, and Fast Stop, all located in Harlan.
On March 14, 2006, Jean married Dennis Gene “Bucket” Anderson in Harlan.
Jean was a good cook who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She loved to spoil and spend time with her grandchildren, and her two pet dogs, Joey and Jude, also brought her much joy.
Jean Marie Anderson died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She had reached the age of 60 years and 7 days.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Judy Deutcher. She is survived by her husband, Dennis “Bucket” Anderson of Harlan, Iowa; one son, Matthew Flax of Salina, Kansas; three daughters, Angela (fiancé, Geoffrey Martin) Flax of Olathe, Kansas, Jessica (Bryan) Cooper of Salina, Kansas, and Katy (friend, Bronson Lewis) Todd of Omaha, Nebraska; two step-children, Allisha Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Harley Anderson of Harlan, Iowa; one brother, John Deutcher of Ellis, Kansas; one sister, Jolene (Larry) Allmon of Colorado; nine grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial prayer service was held on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Al Hazelton of First Assembly of God, Harlan, Iowa, officiating.
