James Franklin Sorensen, son of George and Winifred (Argotsinger) Sorensen, was born on January 28, 1933, in Clay Township, Elk Horn, Iowa. James spent most of his life at the Country Care Home in Harlan, Iowa, the Salem Lutheran Home, Elk Horn, Iowa, and most recently, the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa. James was also known as Jimmy, and to most family members, Franklin. He loved music, playing his guitar, and humming Jingle Bells, no matter what time of the year. Christmas was Jimmy’s favorite time of the year.
James F. Sorensen died on Friday, December 4, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Sorensen and George Sorensen, Jr.; one sister, Ida Sorensen; a special uncle and aunt, John and Veneta Sorensen; special cousin, Linda Nelson; and many other uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by a cousin, Jean Hinners and her husband, Kevin, of Exira, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Norma Jean Meyers and husband, Larry, of Austin, Texas; one niece; and many other cousins and dedicated caregivers at each of the care facilities.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the Clay Township Cemetery in rural Elk Horn, Iowa, with Pastor David Schaal officiating. Casket bearers were members of James’ family.
