Iva Mae Rasmussen, the daughter of William Earl and Lottie Elizabeth (Steffon) Cox, was born on July 22, 1920, in Woodbine, Iowa. She attended country school and Woodbine Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1937. For a few years, Iva Mae worked as a clerk in an Omaha bank. On January 15, 1947, she married Marvin John Rasmussen in Hiawatha, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Kirkman, Iowa.

Iva Mae was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Kirkman, where she was the church treasurer for over 30 years; she also served in other leadership positions in the congregation through the years. She and Marvin made a good couple who complimented each other; they enjoyed working on the farm and raising their sons together. Iva Mae liked gardening, baking, and making handiwork items. She also served as a Cub Scout leader when her sons were young.

Iva Mae Rasmussen died on Monday, August 10, 2015, at the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa. She had reached the age of 95 years and 19 days.

Iva Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Rasmussen, on May 21, 2004; one sister, Bernadine Anderson, and one great-grandson, Matthew Alan Williams. She is survived by two sons, Jon (Judy) Rasmussen and Michael (Suzanne) Rasmussen, both of Kirkman, Iowa; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Laurie Riley of the Kirkman United Methodist Church, Kirkman, Iowa, officiating. Joleen Fiscus served as the organist. Casket bearers were Todd Williams, Zack Williams, Kevin Rasmussen, Matthew Glenn, Jason Rasmussen, and Scott Rasmussen. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Kirkman, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.burmeisterjohannsen.com.
