Evelyn Frances Camery, the daughter of Charles A. and Ida (Fredericksen) Rold, was born on December 15, 1905, in rural Harlan, near Cuppy’s Grove, Iowa. She attended country school in Cuppy’s Grove, and graduated from Harlan High School in 1922. On October, 26, 1923, Evelyn married Morgan Arthur Camery in North Branch, Iowa. The couple ran a retail electronics store behind their Harlan home for many years. Art died on June 18, 1986. Evelyn continued to live in her Harlan home until her health caused her to move to the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, and later to the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.
Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. She was also a 50-year member of Eastern Star Lebanon #8 in Harlan. Evelyn enjoyed sewing and doing handwork.
Evelyn F. Camery died on Thursday, September 16, 2004, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 98 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; her husband, Morgan A. Camery; and two sons, Robert D. Camery, in 1977, and Donald E. Camery, in 1946. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Donna Camery of Atlantic, Iowa; three grandchildren, Lori (Ken) Peppmeier of Shannon City, Iowa, Brent (Carolyn) Camery of Des Moines, Iowa, and Teri Sue Camery of Juneau, Alaska; one niece, Marilyn Schiltz of Omaha, Nebraska; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Gundar Lamberts officiating. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
