Eunice Marian Kolb, the daughter of William and Addie (Clark) Kolb, was born on December 24, 1906, in Clay Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She attended Clay #3 School and graduated from Elk Horn (Iowa) High School with the class of 1926. After graduation, Eunice attended Methodist College of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1930. She did private nursing in Omaha for a short time before moving to Wahoo, Nebraska, where she again worked as a nurse. In December, 1945, Eunice moved to Los Angeles, California, where she continued her nursing career. In December, 1971, Eunice retired. She remained in Los Angeles until October, 1997, when failing eyesight forced her to enter the Villa Scalabrini Retirement Home in Sun Valley, California.
Eunice M. Kolb died on Saturday, September 10, 2005, at the Villa Special Care Unit in Sun Valley, California, at the age of 98 years, 8 months, and 17 days.
Preceding Eunice in death were her parents; three brothers, Gordon Kolb, Lewis Kolb, and Charles Kolb; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Kolb and Elvie Kolb; and one nephew, Warren Kolb. Survivors include one nephew, Larry (Janice) Kolb of North Hills, California; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held on Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Monroe Township Cemetery in rural Shelby County, Iowa, with Rev. David Swinton of the Monroe Chapel officiating. Casket bearers were Jim Timmons, Paul Kolb, Larry Kolb, Verle Doonan, Allan Petersen, and Lyle Fiscus. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
