Delores Ann Anderson, the daughter of Nels and Gertie (Axland) Jensen, was born on September 8, 1933, in rural Audubon, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, Iowa. Delores attended Polk #2 country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Irwin High School in 1951.
On December 30, 1951, Delores married Keith LeRoy Anderson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin. She was then employed as a bookkeeper at the Harlan (Iowa) Sale Barn. In 1971, Delores began working as a baker and cook for the Harlan (Iowa) Community High School; she held this position until her retirement in 1994.
Delores was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. She was a great cook who took pleasure in making sure her hungry family was always well-fed. Delores enjoyed scrapbooking and making various crafts, and she and Keith tended their booth at craft fairs for many years.
Delores A. Anderson died on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Jennie Edmondson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had reached the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 18 days.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith, on June 4, 2000; two sons, Allan Anderson and Gary Anderson; one daughter, Sandra Chadwick; and one daughter-in-law, Jean Anderson. She is lovingly survived by two sons, Rick “Stick” (Annette) Anderson and Denny “Bucket” Anderson, both of Harlan, Iowa; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A private family funeral service was held at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Phil Nielsen officiating. Casket bearers were Steve Bruck, Curt Chadwick, Jason Anderson, Derek Hamilton, Denny Anderson, and Harley Anderson. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa.
