David Richard Lange, the son of Alvin Leo and Margaret Anna (Andersen) Lange, was born on February 3, 1942, in Exira, Iowa. He attended school in Elk Horn, Iowa. On October 23, 1965, David married Mary Kay Nelson in Vail, Iowa. The couple lived in Atlantic, Iowa, for 4½ years, and in 1970, moved to a farm located west of Elk Horn. David was actively engaged in farming until his death.
David was a lifelong member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, where he had served as an usher. He was active in promoting and improving the Elk Horn Fire Department, and was a township trustee. David enjoyed watching auto racing and spending time with his family.
David R. Lange died on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at his home in rural Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 63 years, 10 months, and 10 days.
David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Lange of Elk Horn, Iowa; one daughter, Barbara Luiken of Elk Horn, Iowa; one son, Todd Lange of Elk Horn, Iowa; one sister, Karen (Chuck) Peters of Thousand Oaks, California; one brother-in-law, Steven Nelson of Vail, Iowa; one grandson, Kyle Luiken of Elk Horn, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 16, 2005, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa, with Pastor Keith A. Menter officiating. Nancy Watson served as the organist, and Keith A. Menter was the soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Ross Lange, Kyle Luiken, Thomas Christensen, and Charles Peters. Active casket bearers were Gail Lange, Mike Murphy, Jim Nelsen, Melvin Lange, Darrell Frederiksen, and Ivan Andersen. Burial was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
