Darlene L. Reed, 80, Rapid City, South Dakota, died December 5, 2005 at a nursing home in Rapid City.
Darlene was born November 27, 1925 in Harlan, Iowa to Harry and Mildred (Findley) Peterson.
As a young girl, she grew up on a farm near Cuppy’s Grove. She was a nurses’ cadet in Omaha, Nebraska during World War II. She married Donald Reed of Woodbine, Iowa on June 8, 1945. They moved to Morrill, Nebraska in 1969 where she continued providing nursing care as an LPN.
Darlene was a 30 plus year member of West Way Methodist Church in Morrill, Nebraska.
She took great pleasure in providing love and care to those in need. Darlene enjoyed sewing, cooking and music.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Reed, Wrangell, Alaska; two daughters, Deborah Kuehl, Rapid City and Darcy Reed, Riverside, California; two sisters, Blanche Burmeister and Marilyn Holdren, both of Harlan, IA., 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorials have been established to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
Services were held on Thursday, December 8, 2005, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, IA., with Rev. Dave Swinton officiating. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery. Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City, South Dakota, and Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan were in charge of arrangements.
