Daniel Wesley Chapman, the son of Derek Daniel Chapman and Reneé Marie Milsted, was born on September 27, 1998, in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. Danny attended Harlan Community Schools and had recently started his sophomore year at Harlan Community High School. He greatly enjoyed music and played trombone in the high school band. Danny was an active member of the Boy Scout Troop #90, Order of the Arrow. He was a fire builder in the Nani-Ba-Zhu society, and had attained the rank of Life Scout. Danny had a love of God and country, and had hoped to serve in the military.

Danny was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, where he was in the brass choir and participated in LYO (Lutheran Youth Organization). He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at the home acreage, and hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Danny was a loving and caring brother to all his brothers and sisters.

Daniel W. Chapman died on Monday, August 25, 2014, at his home in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 15 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

Danny was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Daniel “PaPaw” Chapman, and Bis-Nonna, RoseMary Caputo. He is survived by his father, Derek (Cora) Chapman of Harlan, Iowa; his mother, Reneé Milsted (special friend, Wayne Schwarte) of Harlan, Iowa; two sisters and one brother, Jessika Chapman, Brittany Chapman, and Douglas Chapman, all of Harlan, Iowa; two step-sisters and one step-brother, Samantha McCool, Victoria Chapman, and Christopher Chapman, all of Harlan, Iowa; his special friend, Cassandra Lynn Trader of Defiance, Iowa; paternal grandmothers, Gladys Chapman of Madison, Wisconsin, and Joyce “MaMaw” Chapman of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; maternal grandparents, Daniel (Maria) Milsted of Madison, Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Janet Miller officiating. Steve Petty, Craig Crilly, and Steve Britt served as musicians. Casket bearers were Christopher Chapman, Douglas Chapman, Marshall Tucker, Blane Chapman, Timo Milsted, Ken Shetler, and Michael Milsted. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.burmeisterjohannsen.com.
