Daniel Velasco

Daniel Frank Velasco was born on October 30, 1990, the son of Frank Daniel Velasco and Kim (Johnson) Marples in North Platte, Nebraska. He was raised in Elk Horn, Iowa and attended the Baptist Church. He graduated from Elk Horn Kimballton High School with the class of 2009. He continued his education at Iowa State University, earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He went on to complete his Master of Science degree specializing in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

In 2019, he married Brittney Perkins. Together, they were blessed with two children. Dan dedicated his career to public service, working as a federal probation officer for the Southern District of Iowa.

He cherished time with his children, especially fishing at the pond behind their home. He was an avid supporter of Iowa State sports and loved tailgating and attending games. Danny also found joy in riding bikes and creating special memories with his family.

Dan passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the age of 34 years, five months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Charles Johnson; grandparents: Pete and Mary Velasco; stepfather, Billy Marples; uncles: Blair Johnson, Doug McCormick and Angelo Velasco.

He is survived by his wife, Brittney Velasco and their two children; mother, Kim Marples (Roger Blum); father, Frank Velasco; sister, Angie Velasco and her children: Charleigh and Nora; grandma, Mary Catherine Johnson; stepsiblings: Mark Roccio, Rebekah (Chad) Rohr and Julie (Donny) Seitz; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and his Memorial Service will begin at 3:30 p.m. all on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Harlan. Inurnment will follow in the Oakfield Baptist Cemetery near Elk Horn, Iowa. Memorials may directed to the family for a donation to be made in his name.
