Alice Lorraine Falk, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Martens) Pieper, was born on March 9, 1918, in Neola, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and then worked as a hired girl for her uncle, Robert Martens, for several years. On December 10, 1941, Alice married Herman Moss in Omaha, Nebraska. He was killed during World War II in Normandy on August 13, 1944. Alice then married Edward L. Falk on January 1, 1947, in Minden, Iowa; he died on February 26, 1966, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. On October 10, 1968, she married Otto Falk in Omaha. He died on June 8, 1971, in Minden.
Alice lived in the same Minden, Iowa, home most of her life. In July 2011, she became a resident of the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa.
Alice was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ in Minden, and she enjoyed attending worship services, as well as other church activities and dinners. An active homemaker and farmwife, she liked to spend time gardening, raising poultry, and caring for her fruit trees. Alice loved her dogs; her most recent companion was named Bobby. She was a good cook who will be remembered for her simple and tasty meals.
Alice L. Falk died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa, at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Herman Moss; her second husband, Edward L. Falk; her third husband, Otto Falk; and three sisters, Ella Doner, Elsie Martens, and Bessie Moss. She is survived by one son, Donald (Sharon) Falk of Irving, Texas; two granddaughters, Barbara (John) Ghilardi of Sanger, California, and Donanne (Jake) Woodruff of Pampa, Texas; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Minden United Church of Christ, Minden, Iowa, with Rev. Brian Wohlhuter officiating. Serving as musicians were Maureen Olsen and Cliff Killpack. Casket bearers were Scott Moss, Arlon Martens, Lynn Larsen, and Andy Martens. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery in Minden, Iowa.
